First Gestures

The Language of Light The Flash Codes Grace and Rocky communicate by flashing their engines. They establish a pattern of responses. Grace sends a simple message, and Rocky repeats it. This is the first step. The Star Map Model Rocky sends a cylinder containing a star map model, showing the path from 40 Eridani to Tau Ceti. Grace understands the message: they are from 40 Eridani and are here for the same reason. This is a breakthrough in communication. The Tunnel Meeting A tunnel is built between the ships.
